Overview

Every club wants to be welcoming – it helps you reach more members, run better events, and build a stronger community – but inclusion doesn’t just happen on its own.

This workshop, led by Birds of Paradise Theatre Company, will give your committee the skills and confidence to make that happen. Birds of Paradise are Scotland’s leading inclusive theatre company, recognised across the arts and education sectors for their pioneering work on access, representation, and equality. They’ve trained organisations across the UK on how to make inclusion real – and now they’re bringing that expertise to UofG’s Clubs and Societies.

Over 90 minutes, you’ll learn:

  • How to talk about accessibility and inclusion confidently and respectfully.
  • Practical ways to plan events and activities that everyone can take part in.
  • How to remove common barriers – physical, digital, and social – within your club.
  • Steps to build accessibility into your committee culture from day one.

The session combines expert-led training with space to discuss your club’s own challenges. You’ll also get access to Birds of Paradise’s Accessibility Toolbox – a resource packed with simple, effective ideas you can put into practice straight away.

This is a unique chance to learn directly from professionals with lived experience of disability and a proven track record of helping organisations become truly inclusive. Participants will receive a record of attendance for their club’s skills log and practical takeaways to help your committee lead the way on inclusion.

To successfully complete this workshop, you are required to attend a quick 10-minute online briefing before the session. During this briefing, you’ll receive an overview of the workshop, confirm your attendance, and have the opportunity to ask any questions in advance. You’ll be able to sign up for the briefing of your choice when you submit your ticket, and a Zoom link will be sent to you in a follow-up email.

Don’t miss this opportunity to build your club’s confidence, reputation, and community by putting inclusion at the heart of what you do!
