About

Welcome to Glasgow University Muay Thai (GUMT), one of the biggest and most active clubs within Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA)!

Muay Thai is a martial art and combat sport originating from Thailand that has taken over the hearts and minds of fight aficionados and fitness enthusiasts all over the world. Commonly known as "the art of eight limbs", we learn how to throw punches, elbows, knees and kicks, and enjoy a full-body workout! Our training is suitable for all levels of skills, experience and ability, and is a great way to develop your fitness, strength and flexibility. With training offered five days a week, there's something for everyone! Whether you’re wanting to explore a nuanced combat sport and grow your self confidence, or are keen to try a new, exciting and fun alternative to cardio alongside friendly and like-minded people, we’d love to have you.

Training

We offer sessions with our 3 highly-trained and professional Coaches on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, open to all levels from beginner to intermediate. Additionally, higher level Intermediate sparring happens at our Coaches' gym, Everyday Athlete, every Saturday. Finally, we offer a Sunday fitness session – everything from yoga and mobility, to weightlifting and HIIT – to support and elevate your training on the pads during the week. Light, flexible sportswear is recommended, and a personal water bottle is always a necessity!

Fight Night!

Twice a year we host our famous biannual Fight Nights! This guaranteed highlight of your semester sets our fighters up against other University Muay Thai clubs all around the UK  in an unforgettable night packed with punches, kicks and an electric atmosphere!

Social Events

Alongside our Fight Nights, we also host fortnightly themed socials, the perfect place to meet new people, especially if you’re new to Glasgow! These socials run alongside several marquee social events throughout the year, including the Fall Ball, GUSA Ball, Christmas Dinner and Fundraisers.

We also run Welfare socials (usually sober and involving food!) to ensure that the wholesome vibe is present. To elevate our members social experience we also have a family system, where you can join and have a point of contact in the club via two parents (one committee, one experienced member) and a whole family of other (usually new) members to the club who you can socialize with before or after training/ events. You’ll never need to attend an event alone!

Further Info

Since our training is held in the Stevenson Building, you will require a UofG Sport membership to gain access. If you are struggling with unforeseen short-term financial difficulty, GUSA has recently launched a Hardship Fund which you may want to check out.

+We also provide merchandise such as Club T-shirts, Fleeces, and Custom GUMT Muay Thai Shorts, as well as equipment like GUMT branded Gloves and Hand Wraps, all of which you can purchase from us at training!
