About

Glasgow University Women’s Football Club is an inclusive and welcoming space for all to participate in football, with teams for every level!

Getting involved in any sport (but especially this one ;) ) is a great way to make friends and keep fit whilst at university, and we pride ourselves on being the most fun and friendly GUSA club on campus! We have qualified coaches for all our competitive and recreational teams, so whether you’re a seasoned veteran or new to the game, there’s a place in our club for you!

Competitive structure

We have 4 competitive teams. Our first team plays in the BUCS 1A league, 2nd team in BUCS 2A league, 3rd and 4th teams in BUCS 3A league. All four teams also take part in the annual ‘She Can She Will Cup.’ In addition to this, our 1st team also takes part in the annual National Trophy Cup and our 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams take part in the annual Conference Cup. Although these teams are formed at the start of each season, the club is motivated to help with players’ individual progression and therefore movement between teams is something we welcome and encourage!

Recreational structure

We also have a development team, which is a great option for those either newer to the sport or not wanting the full commitment of competitive football! Our dev team have two training sessions per week with their qualified coach, as well as weekly indoor sessions run by their captain. There also continues to be opportunities for our dev team to play against recreational/development teams of other universities throughout the year.

Training

Our competitive teams train every week on Monday and Tuesday evenings at Garscube Sports Complex, and their BUCS matches are held on a Wednesday. Boots and shin pads are a must for all competitive players, whilst exercise trainers would be suitable for those taking part in recreational sessions.

Socials

Organised whole club socials are held fortnightly, where we gather to socialise and play games before joining the other GUSA clubs for a boogie at the university union’s sports night! Some of the classic hits throughout the year are white lies, frat boy, wacky races, and of course, the legendary subcrawl!! There are also other smaller events held every other week from quizzes and bingo to team potlucks and karaoke – there’s something for everyone!

Additional Info

As a club, we also go on tour every year to a secret location of our tour convenor’s choosing. It’s a great week full of team bonding, boogieing, and lounging in the sun (sometimes even a bit of football) and is always a highlight of the year!

Insurance

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in.  Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you.

GUSA recommends that all students playing high risk sport, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered.  Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
