About

Glasgow University triathlon Club (GUTRI) provides training, racing and recreational opportunities to new and experienced members alike, and has done for over a decade!

GUTRI offers a welcoming and supportive environment to push your limits within the sport and take on new challenges.]

Training

We have multiple professionally coached swim, bike and run sessions throughout the week as well as strength and conditioning. Each session is accessible to all abilities. We have three swim sessions a week with beginner, intermediate and advanced lanes. The post swim sauna is also a highlight! We have two indoor bike sessions in Revolve, a specialised indoor cycling area. We also offer weekly outdoor group road bike rides, catering to every ability. Running sessions take place twice a week with a friendly easy run and a coached session, where we focus of speed, endurance and technique. Training isn't compulsory and you are free to come to whichever sessions suit you best

Racing

GUTRI has several racing opportunities across the UK throughout the year. We compete in all subsets of triathlon include aquathons and duathlons as well as single discipline races (running, cycling, and swimming individually). We compete is three BUCS events a year as well as the Scottish Student Sport (SSS) series. In past years we have seen great success at these events with BUCS podiums and SSS team and individual wins. Racing is something open to all our members regardless of experience or ability, and even if you’ve never raced before you can be sure to have a great time with lots of support from the rest of the club. Racing is one of the most enjoyable parts of Triathlon and GUTRI gives you the platform to perform at all levels of the sport.

Socials and Trips

We host several social events throughout the year, from relaxed potlucks and weekly pub meets to Sub crawls, ceilidhs and festive events. We also host events with other clubs at Glasgow as well as with other universities, offering a great chance to make new and lasting friendships. There is a residential training weekend each semester, allowing you to make the most of Scotland’s beautiful countryside. On top of this, we organise several mountain biking/open water swimming/fell running day trips. Each June we escape the Glasgow rain and travel abroad for a weeklong club holiday!

Club and Charity Events

GUTRI has several charity events throughout the year. In previous years we have completed a 24hr cycle in aid of Movember. We also have our annual charity swim where we swim as far as possible to raise money for our club’s chosen charity. In addition, each year we organise and host an Urban aquathon at Bellahouston Park each march. This event affords an opportunity for our club to interact with the public and the wider triathlon community.

Get Involved

If you would like to get a taste for what the club is about then come and talk to us the Freshers Fayre during fresher’s week or reach out to us on our social media page. During Freshers week we host a day trip to Balloch on the shores of Loch Lomond where you can see what the club gets up to on a daily basis.
