About

Whether you've been riding since before you could walk, or you've never even been near a horse before, Glasgow University Riding Club (GURC) looks forward to meeting you

We offer riding lessons for all levels and abilities as well as the opportunity to compete in BUCS competitions. Our stables, Busby Equitation Centre, is easy to access through public transport or car, and have a wide variety of horses and ponies to ride

Teams

We have four BUCS competition teams, each with five riders, as well as a development team who all train at least twice per month. Our teams compete in three league competitions per year which take place on a Wednesday morning and are against other Scottish Uni’s. Our teams are very successful and each year since 2017, we have had members qualify for national championships! You don’t need your own horse to compete as we train on Busby lesson horses and compete on horses from the hosting teams stable that you draw randomly out a hat on the day of the competition. Competitions involve riding a dressage test on one horse then jumping a course of jumps on another. For this reason, anyone wanting to join teams should be able to ride a BD novice level dressage test and jump a course of up to 90cm on an unknown horse.

Recreational Riding

We provide recreational lessons for all levels of riders, from complete beginners to advanced riders. You will ride in a group of 5 to 8 other riders who are at the same level as you.Lessons take place in two ten week blocks. Signups for our semester one block take place in September and semester two signups happen in January.

Training

Our teams training takes place on a Monday and Tuesday evening and members train at least twice a month. Recreational lessons take place every day of the week and riders have a lesson every week within a ten week block.

Socials

We hold a social on the first Thursday of every month and throughout the semester we also have a number of other socials on offer such as including Wednesday night sports nights, movie nights, yoga for horse riders, pub canter, Christmas dinner and GUSA ball!

Please visit our website to find more information on how to join our club and follow us on social media to keep up to date with what all we have going on.

Insurance

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in.  Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you.

GUSA recommends that all students playing high risk sport, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered.  Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
