About

Glasgow University Shinty Club welcomes and encourages players of all abilities and backgrounds to get involved and try out our traditional Scottish stick sport.

Are you an accomplished shinty player? Had some experience but haven't seen much action on the pitch in years? Or have you never held a shinty stick in your life?

Despite having many complete beginners, GUSC is historically a hugely successful club.

On top of this, every year a considerable number of GUSC players are selected to join the Scottish Students Representative Squad which offers a chance to play Shinty-Hurling at international level.

Although there's nothing quite like shinty, some of our best players have made the transition from a variety of other sports, including hurling, hockey, football and rugby – including past presidents and captains!

Our Club

GUSC holds many social events throughout the university calendar from a scavenger hunt and ceilidhs to our annual sixes tournament.

Every year GUSC go on tour to Ireland to play a hurling team in a combined rules game. Tour is a great way to get involved with the club and always makes for a fun weekend.

We also participate in various sixes tournaments around the country each year for example St Andrews, Edinburgh and even once going to Oxford!
