Selling Your Books

Q. How do I go about selling my books through the SRC?
A. Contact us (at bookshop@src.gla.ac.uk)and let us know which books you wish to sell (including title, author and year of publication or edition number). We will then email you back within 48 working hours (although this may take longer during busy periods) with details of what books we can take. We will also arrange a time for you to come in with the books as this service is now by appointment only due to social distancing rules. Instructions on what you will need to do at your appointment time will be given also at this point.

Q. How much money will I receive for my books?
A. You set the price of your books but they should be around one-third less than what they cost to buy new, for older editions a larger discount will be necessary. The bookshop staff will offer advice on what price would be most suitable. The SRC takes one-third commission on this price – so, for example, if you price your book at £15.00, you will make £10.00. However, you will only receive your share of the sale price AFTER someone has bought your book. Once your book has sold, we will contact you by email to let you know you have money to collect.

Q. I am leaving Glasgow and I want to sell my books. How can I receive the money when my books are sold?
A. There are several ways to receive your money remotely. We can arrange to pay your funds into a UK bank account and can also make payments worldwide using PayPal. You may also arrange for another person to collect the money on your behalf but please email us first to arrange this.

Q. What happens if my book does not sell?
A. We will offer your book for sale for a minimum of 18 months. If your book does not sell in this time, we will contact you and request that you either reduce the price of your book or that you come and take it away. You may also choose to donate your book to the SRC, in which case the book will be sold for a very low price and any profits will be donated to the SRC’s charitable fund. We will always attempt to contact students in these situations, however, it is the responsibility of the student to provide us with up-to-date contact details so we can keep you informed about your books.

Buying Books

Q. How can I find out if the book I want is in stock?
A.  Please contact us and provide full details of the book (title, author, edition) to check if it is in stock.

Q. How can I reserve a book to collect later?
A. Please call or email us with the details of the book you wish to reserve. Please include the title, author, price and edition number (if necessary) of the book. Please note, in September and October books cannot be reserved due to the demand on the service during this time.

Q. What is your refund policy?
A. The SRC does not offer refunds for any books in any circumstances. We always recommend that you check the details of the books you need before making a purchase.
