About

Glasgow University Women’s Rugby Club is an amazing way to get involved in sport at uni!

We are always looking for new members to come and join the team, and we pride ourselves on being a really welcoming and inclusive club. No experience playing rugby is required to join us, as the majority of our new players have never picked up a ball before!

Teams

Our first team competes in the Scottish BUCS 1A league, which we won in 2022/23, and so get to compete against teams all over Scotland. We also play in a varsity match against Strathclyde every year which is held at Scotstoun Stadium and is watched by over 1000 people! We are currently in the process of developing a new second team, which is a more social team focussing on introducing players to the game for the first time in a fun and friendly way.

Socials

With regard to the social aspect of the club, GUWRFC is second to none! With our fantastic social secretaries ensuring regular themed nights, we guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Women’s rugby is a really close-knit environment, and there are always people going out and having a good time after games whether we win or lose. We’re a really well-known club on campus and have lots of joint socials with other clubs as well, which is always a fun and chaotic way to meet new people. Every year we get silly and go on tour to a mystery destination – past examples have included Malaga, Amsterdam, Berlin, and more!

Training

We have two pitch training sessions and two gym sessions a week – check our Instagram or Facebook for more details of these – and we play a match most Wednesdays.

Joining

Membership is available for one semester or for the whole year, but you don’t need a membership to come to one of our sessions just to try it out – just drop us an email or send us a message on Instagram
