Teams

We have six competitive teams that play in both Wednesday and Saturday leagues. Our 1st XI currently compete in the highest division of Scottish Hockey in the Premiership league at the weekend, and BUCS Premier (North) on Wednesdays, with our 2nd XI in the Scottish Hockey Championship and BUCS Scottish Tier 1. Ours 3s, 4s, 5s, and 6s compete in local West District leagues at the weekend and in BUCS Scottish Tier 3, 4 and 5 respectively. In addition to our competitive teams, we have a 7s who currently do not play in any leagues. However this is something we are hoping to change in the upcoming year.

Recreational

We also have a large Development squad who play in friendlies against other West of Scotland based universities. Every Wednesday we also have a game session for girls looking to improve their game play.

Training

The club has qualified and experienced coaching staff for our 1XI and 2XI, as well as experienced members of the Men's and Women's clubs helping coach the remaining teams and Development squad.

Socials

Within the GUWHC we recognise the need to play hard as well as work hard, so we have various social events, usually hosted alongside the Men's club, throughout the academic year. These events place members into teams which allows the opportunity to get to know players across the whole club that you may not normally socialise with. The final event of the year is Club Dinner, normally hosted by the Union after May exams, in which we celebrate the end of another hockey season as well as club and team achievements. Every year, the Men's and Women's club also run a tour to an exciting European destination. Previous tours have visited Prague, Budapest, and Barcelona. This is a fantastic week held after the May examinations to allow one final get-together before summer starts. We cater for all abilities, so the competitive yet social GUWHC really does have something for everyone.
