Overview

GU Amnesty International, in collaboration with GU Women in Politics, will be running a 'Write for Rights' campaign session on Tuesday 18th November, 16:00-17:30, in the GUU Reading Room. All our welcome to join us!

Letting-writing and the 'Write for Rights' campaign is a long-running Amnesty tradition. As part of 'Write for Rights' we write letters to governments and authorities calling for justice for those persecuted for their beliefs or suffering human rights abuses. Additionally, we write letters of solidatory to prisoners of conscience and to activists facing injustice.

There letters are life-changing and many prisoners of conscience, who were a part of Amnesty's urgent actions or 'Write for Rights' campaigns in the past, were released following the international attention generated by this campaigning.

Letters can be digital and sent via email (in which case, please take a laptop and charger if you need it!) or can be physically written and posted. All further information will be provided.

We will provide all necessary materials (paper, pens and envelopes), but please feel free to take your own materials if you want to be even more creative!

Finally, as this event concerns letter-writing for activists facing human rights abuses and injustice, this event may have content that is potentially personally distressing. There will be designated welfare support during the event, however, if you are concerned about this and wish to contact us for further information or support feel free to message our welfare officer before, during or after the event at amnestywelfare@gmail.com.
